Introductions

Where to begin? I could write for days about my hopes, dreams, and aspirations. About how I want to start my own clothing company selling products hand-made in the USA...which I do, but more about that later. What I am really hoping to accomplish with this blog is to chronicle my thoughts on style/lifestyle from the perspective of a native New Englander trying to make it in the post-college world in a new city, with a focus on preppy/classic style. For now, I am going to leave my goals for the blog intentionally vague in the hopes that some sort of coherent trend emerges as I continue to post. Now, a little about myself, in case you're interested.

I was born in Massachusetts, but grew up in New Hampshire. My family owns land in Vermont, and we just moved to the Maine coast a few years ago and bought a ski condo in the White Mountains, so to say that I have a New England background would be an understatement (look out Connecticut and Rhode Island, you're next on the list!). Oh, I also forgot to mention...we live in a log cabin. I am very thankful for the upbringing I received, and would not change a thing.

I have always prided myself on where I am from and have yet to find a place that I love more than the quiet and quaint world where I grew up. That being said, I knew I needed to explore living elsewhere, so I chose to go to college in Pennsylvania, and this past September, following graduation and a summer spent at home, I decided to trek even further south and move to Washington, DC. So far it has been quite an adjustment (specifically the lack of winter!), but all in all, I would say I am adjusting well. It was the history that attracted me to DC, much the same reason I went to college where I did, and why I love New England so much. Another thing about DC--more specifically Georgetown, where I work--that I really appreciate is the appreciation for the classic/preppy style and lifestyle that many of its inhabitants and workers seem to have. As someone who lives their life and dresses in a similar fashion, I was able to connect very easily to that aspect of the city and its inhabitants. It was also my inspiration for starting this blog in the first place; as a chance to take what I am learning and seeing now and apply my own perspective on it through the lens of a native New Englander.

As far as introductions go, I think that will suffice for the time being. If you managed to keep reading up until this point, you're awesome!! As a reward, I will try and make my next posts a little more short, sweet, and to the point. Most of my writing experience is derived from writing academic papers, so I need to learn how to better tailor my writing for the blogosphere.

My first official post will be on a topic I've been thinking about a lot over the past 2 months, and that is how to wear your favorite winter pieces in this mild-temperatured winter we are experiencing. Stay tuned!!

Also, if you're really interested in what I have to say, check out my Tumblr at: A Displaced New Englander Tumblr. Be warned though, I just started tumbling (if thats what its called) so theres not a whole lot on my page yet, but I plan to start updating regularly!
